The African American Museum of the Arts, Inc. and the Creative Arts Department of Stetson University have partnered together on a grant funded project to reinvigorate the Dr. Noble “Thin Man” Watts Amphitheater. Part of the project included the installation of a mural on the back wall of the amphitheater.

The Creative Arts Department identified nationally, recognized artist Moses

Sun for the project. Moses process for murals is very community – and

location oriented. “The museum held several Zoom meetings with the artist

and the Spring Hill community to share their thoughts and ideas about the murals

contents. He had a vision for the mural in this space but wanted to understand

the site more fully in person, as well as meet in-person with the community

before finalizing his design," said Mary Allen, executive director.

Moses arrived from Seattle, Washington on April 18, 2022. With the help of Stetson’s Art Department faculty and students, and the community the mural was completed on April 26, 2022. "The abstract designs, the bright and radiant colors and the silhouette of Dr. Noble “Thin Man” Watts just pops out at you. It is really beautiful," said Allen. A community gathering will follow at later date.
