DeLand, Florida celebrated Emancipation Day on May 20-22, 2022. The goal was to educate, as well as, share the historical significance of the Emancipation Proclamation to end slavery in the state of Florida. Emancipation in the State of Florida, was proclaimed in Tallahassee on May 20, 1865, 11 days after the end of the Civil War, and two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was first issued by President Abraham Lincoln freeing those enslaved in the rebellious southern states.
