The community came out to support and enjoy the National Night Out event at Derbyshire Park in Daytona Beach. The Daytona Beach Police Department hosted the event. The mission of the National Night Out initiative is to bring communities and police together nationwide as a way of building community relationships between police and citizens while providing great opportunities and positive interactions within the community.
National Night Out Daytona included vendors with information on community services, including health care and education, voter registration, live music by a deejay, dancing, games, and raffles for bicycles and other items. Event sponsors treated the attendees to free hot dogs, hamburgers and chips, and snow cones. The youth attending were able to talk to and hang out with both police and firefighters at the event. The National Night Out event hasn't occurred since 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, the 2022 National Night Out was a success. Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young, and Zone 5 Commissioner Dannette Henry, put together a fantastic event for the community.
